Here's Dale's cover. Nice, eh? Look for it at a funny book emporium near you. And, if you've got any comments/criticisms/questions/
whatever, post 'em here or on the message boards at Lurid.com. I'm dying to hear them!
Second, if you happen to be in the Columbus, Ohio, area the weekend after Thanksgiving, swing by the Hilton at Easton Town Center for Mid Ohio Con, one of the best comic book conventions around. Besides the non-con-related advantages (nice hotel, conveniently located hotel bar, great shopping complex right next door…) there’s the event itself, which is damn near perfect. Large enough to attract some big-name guests, it’s not so big that you get that aching-feet, dry-mouth, glazed-over-eyes con sickness halfway through. It’s just a really nice, comfortable way to spend a weekend feeding that comic book monkey on your back.
And, if you really have nothing better to do, I’ll be speaking on two panels at the show. Come see me make a fool of myself in front of comic book professionals I admire and respect! Here’s the dope, straight from the Mid Ohio Con Web site:
4 p.m. Saturday: “Talkin' DC:” Matt Wagner (tons of books), Leonard Kirk (tons of books too, including three issues of H-E-R-O with me) and yours truly will spend an hour or so “examining DC comics from a variety of angles,” as the site says. Among the questions we’ll attempt to answer: “How do you get in?” and “What's it like to be an insider?” Hell, I’d like to hear the answer to that one myself!
11:30 a.m. Sunday: “Writing Time: Getting It Done!” Mark Wheatley (Hammer of the Gods), Paul Storrie (Robyn Hood), Dan Taylor (Hero Happy Hour) and your humble blogmaster will “talk extensively about their writing experiences to anyone within range,” according to the site. This Sunday morning panel could be extra fun, especially if my friends from northern Ohio swing down and we stay up all night with my ol’ pal Mr. Rolling Rock. Either way, it’s bound to be entertaining!
And, along with my pal Mark Ricketts (Iron Man, Lazarus Jack), I’ll be in the artists’ room all weekend, signing books, talking to anyone who swings by the table and generally pretending to be busy. If you’re reading this now and you’re there then, for corn's sake, stop by and say hi!

Speaking of... er... canceled books, is there any chance we'll ever find out what happened to the third issue of your last Aquaman arc? Seeing Ostrander's name on the cover was a shock, not a pleasant one despite my liking Ostrander's work in general.
Before or after visiting Will during convention hours, you can also stop by the Graham Cracker Comics booth to say hello and give me a much needed moment of sanity...
...or later you will surely be able to find me in the hotel bar attempting to drink away the pain of having to work with the owner of the company all day.
Laura -- Actually, I was wondering about that part 3 when I first saw it solicited. I had always been set to do only through issue 22, and I'm not sure why DC ever said I'd be doing 23. Sorry about that!
Huh. That's a weird mix-up, probably on the editorial side somewhere. I wonder if that led to the issue being late, too... Very odd.
Are all of the issues of HERO going to make it to trade, or do I need to make sure I'm buying all the singles?
I'll do whatever I have to do.
Hi Will,
Just curious what happened to the lightening powered construction worker-turned-busty broad. I think she's the only dial user who didn't appear in the finale. I know it was implied at the end of his/her arc that time had passed and his/her powers burned out leaving him/her as a stripper in a dingy club -- but what happens after someone else uses the dial? Doesn't he/she revert back? I feel like that thread was maybe left hanging. Or is ambiguity the name of the game hear?
Also...does he/she do a traditional three song set?
Chris: As much as I wish it were otherwise, I don't see DC doing any more HERO trades. If I hear any differently, I'll let you know, but for now your best bet is probably to pick up the singles. (In odd international news, however, the trade has been translated into both Spanish and Italian for the European markets -- weird, eh?)
Ken: I didn't include poor Joe in the big HERO finale because his story sort of kicked it off. As far as I'm concerned, he'll never change back and have to adjust to his life as a woman -- my idea of a bittersweet ending. Some other writer will probably dredge him up eventually, but for me, he'll always be dancing the late shift. And he'll do the set, but you have to pay. Boy, do you have to pay!
Hey, by the way, thanks for reading the book, guys! It means a lot to me -- seriously!
I was sorry to see no Joe, especially after she made the cover as Electra Lass again ;) Quick question for you though, what would you have named Andrea's blue superhero character in issue 22? I as "would" since you mentioned you didn't name the Super Maniac character, so I was just wondering if you had any idea what she would have been called. Thanks!
