Sad news from the East End...

As the official solicits confirm, CATWOMAN #81 (in stores at the end of July) is indeed the last issue of the book. I've had a hell of a time writing it, but what can I say? The sales just weren't there. It sucks, but it happens.

In the meantime, the CATWOMAN crew and I have have some wild stuff planned for the last few issues. No crossovers, no alien worlds, no attacking Amazons. Just Selina in Gotham, doing what she does best -- fighting, stealing and generally having a grand ol' time. So weep not for Catwoman, comic readers, weep for the characters who are going to have the rug pulled out from under them in this final storyline.

In the meantime, here's Adam Hughes' cover for that last issue. He's done some great stuff since in the past few dozens issues, but this might be the tops. I think it really captures the mood of the book...

NO! The book i look most forward to each month because its so well-written, immensely entertaining, and with fanfuckingtastic art with my favorite female character is getting the ax. This is so terrible. Don't do it! Fight it! SHIT!

Shoot! Mate, I'm so, so sad that #81 will really be the final issue. I mean, Will, I really really enjoy your writing! I have to admit that due to limited budget, I usually buy the TPB, but I love Selina Kyle, and will be sad to see her going away, or worse, going back to her villainess state pre-Brubaker.

In any case, thanks Will, for your beautiful writings. I love your Catwoman, including Helena Kyle, and I'm sad to see her gone.

You aren't on Blue Beetle either.

Outside of AA, I've liked almost all your work.

What are you doing in August, so I can at least hope for that.

Add me to the list of loyal readers who are quite unhappy with this news. I'll be writing DC to let them know my opinion.

And thanks for the great work on this book! I've only been reading it for the last year, but it's quickly become one of my favorite reads.

I just want to echo all the feelings here. Catwoman is also the book I look forward to reading the most every month. The clever cliffhangers especially drove my anticipation from issue to issue. This has been DC's most consistently well-made comic, from Hughes's covers to the writing and art. Even when the book was tied in to a crossover, it managed to shine and move Selina's story forward.

I'm glad you'll get a chance to go out with a bang, and I look forward to these last few issues. I also look forward to whatever you write in the future, and hope you get to collaborate again with the Lopezes.

That's too bad, Will. It was great while it lasted!

Well, that just sucks. We can't have Selina left in limbo, or at the mercy of the other Bat books. What about Holly? Slam? What about Selina reuniting with Helena someday. When Ed Brubaker revived this book and then left, I didn't think anyone could take over this book and do it justice, and you proved me wrong by raising the bar even higher.

So, thanks for entertaining me so much with your Catwoman stories. I will miss them greatly.

Well, there goes all the money I spend monthly at DC. Catwoman is/was the only title I read from the company. Please take your talents to Marvel or Image or anywhere other than DC so I wont be tempted to read another one of their titles.

I will miss your Catwoman. She / your writing is the only true comic I look forward to reading each month. It's like nothing else matters.

I have run out of words to express my frustration, now I would like to share some praise. Thank you Will for writing stories that are timeless. Thank you for writing stories that have heart. Thank you for writing intellectually stimulating stories. Thank you for caring about Catwoman.

Thanks,

Alton

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. I really does mean a lot to me to hear from people who enjoy what I've been having so much fun writing. Thanks for taking the time to drop by.

And thank you, Will, for writing such wonderful stories and for providing a forum like this for us to tell you what we think. :)

This is not good news!! I was aprehensive when Brubaker left Catwoman, but you've kept the quality right up there making it one of the best books DC puts out. I will miss my monthly fix of Selina's adventures.

DC don't seem to be doing themselves any favours these days, and here's another reason why.

This is, like, the worst news ever.
