Well, heh heh... this is a little embarrassing...

But I've just been reminded by my on-top-of-things editor that CATWOMAN is not, in fact, ending with issue #81. It's actually ending with issue #82 -- so you get an entire month's worth -- yes, 22 pages -- more of Catwoman-y goodness.

Now, of course, I couldn't told you this myself since, like I said, I'm working on the next-to-last issue and, right at the top of my file, it says CATWOMAN #81. But, obviously, I'm not very bright.

So, to sum up:

1. CATWOMAN ends with #82, not #81.
2. I really appreciate all the kind words from people who'll miss the book. Believe me, I'll miss writing it.
3. I'm not very bright.

Does DC have plans to relaunch the book, and soon? I am one sad Selina fan right now.

Will Pfeifer said...

I don't know of any relaunch plans. Sorry.

I never much cared for Catwoman until I picked up one of your early issues on a whim. It's been one of my favorite reads every month since then. Sorry to see it go.

im sooo depressed because of this, it's my fave book BY FAR!

Do you have any more jobs at DC lined up?

Greg said...

Yeah, it still sucks. One more issue is one more issue, though. Damn.

So Will, this is where you say...

"I have a couple of projects in the pipeline that I can't talk about yet but DC will be announcing them soon."

... right? Because I liked Catwoman and all, but I liked it for the writing more than anything else, just like HERO and Aquaman and what not.

And no, the two issue fill-in on Blue Beetle doesn't count(even if yes, I'm looking forward to it).

GAH! Noes! I really enjoyed your great understanding of Selina Kyle and your portrayal of her. Been following her exploits since Batman Year One and, aside from missing her purple duds, she's always been well taken care of. So I thank you for doing great work with her and send her off well, good sir!

I am so bummed about this book being cancelled. You, sir, are one of my absolute favorite writers.

I really hope you'll be writing something else for DC very soon.

I think the Film Freak issues are going to be one of my favorite arcs for a very long time.

I'm going to miss Catwoman but I'll get over it when I read the next series you do.

I can't remember the issue number, but the one where Selina gave up her baby... I got freaking CHOKED UP on that issue. You're a remarkable writer, Will.

Thanks for all the kind comments, gang. Believe me, I wish the book wasn't ending -- I really do love writing it, and Selina is one of my favorite characters in comics. As soon as I get word of what's coming up next, I'll let you know.

Looking forward to seeing what they put you on. I could have sworn you were the replacement on Blue Beetle, but I see Sturges is on that now. No offense to Matt, but I'd really have liked to see you on the book.

Dear Will,

I hope you soon get a chance to write Selina again. Catwoman was my favorite DC series since you wrote it and it's hard to know, that the story is over...

Best wishes, Volker

(love your H.E.R.O series, too)

I can't believe this - I'm so gutted! I look forward to this comic, and this one alone, every single month - I'm actually quite devastated to tell the truth. I hope Selina comes back again. What a shame (as with before) you didn't get to finish it at one hundred. Well I hope she goes out with a blast. You've all done a brilliant job. Man, this is awful!

I am very sorry to hear of this development, but I am not surprised. It seems as if the comic lost some steam, especially after the "One Year Later" story arc. It remains my favourite. Indeed, the comic led to my establishing my Web site on her.

But I am sure Selina will not be counted out! She is way too important a character in the DC Comics universe!

This is terrible news - Catwoman's been one of DC's secret best books for a while now, and last issue was one of my favorite comics of the past year or so. Great work, Will, and I'm really sad to see the run end.

That said, at least I have a new issue to pick up tomorrow, and four more after that to look forward to.

Chris Sims said...

Man, that's a shame. It's easily one of DC's best titles on every level, and has been since the start.

Considering how completely dreadful the book has been since OYL began, I consider this nothing more than a mercy killing.

I hope when/if Catwoman is relaunched, it will be by someone who thinks more highly of her than you do. She deserves a hell of a lot better.

I'm really sorry that Catwoman is cancelled. I loved the character and the stories you wrote (as usual, well maybe except Amazons Attack). And the art was really great too. Can't explain why it got cancelled ...

It's a shame. You did a great, great work. Thanks.

can we at least know if there is going to be a trade paperback of these last few arcs so at the end it can say 'the end'

im so sad about this.

I honestly think that the current volume has run it's course. It needed to end, just like everything. A nice wrap-up. They really should start to work on the next volume, a new image, tone, and style. Keep things fresh and totally new.

Damn, I only just finally started buying this series after reading my friends copies every month (I had to drop another comic to start getting this one cos am low income currently), and only today I've seen this news.

Real nice work on the comic. Really enjoyed it and will purchase the trades when I'm back to work.

I heard about this a while ago but I just found out about your blog so I thought I'd come take a look. It's so awful that Catwoman is canceled. She's a unique character and one of my favorites. I really enjoyed your run.

Thanks for writing Catwoman. She is my favorite Batman universe character.
I am glad she was able to have her own comic for a time. She is such a wonderful and depth character. Thanks Will Pfeifer.

By the way, pretty please ask Nolan to bring with wonderful character to the batman movies. I love this character so much. I love this catwoman and not the magic one in first batman. She would add depth to story and a true love interest in Selina Kyle to Bruce's life.

By the way, if Batman ever gets married may it be Selina Kyle. She is a wonderful and colorful character. She may be a thief but she got a good moral code.

Thanks Will and to fellow writers. I appreciate you bringing Selina Kyle to life.
